    Description

    This auction is for a
    rare alternate cover
    of the
    1969 NBA Finals program
    from
    Game 7
of the championship series between the
    Boston Celtics
    and the
    Los Angeles Lakers
, played at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood, California, on May 5th, 1969.
    This cover, featuring
Lakers' coach, Butch van Breda Kolff
, differs from the more common Elgin Baylor cover used for this Game 7.
On that Monday night, the Celtics defeated the Lakers, 108-106, behind an inspired performance by the entire Celtics team, who finished 4th in the Eastern Division during the regular season before sweeping the 76ers in the 1st round and eliminating the Knicks, 4 games to 2, in the Eastern Division Finals.
This Celtics' championship was their 11th in 13 years, ending the greatest dynasty in American sports history. This was the final game, as a player, for both Bill Russell and Sam Jones of the Celtics. It was also the final game for Bill Russell as the coach of the Boston Celtics, finishing with 2 NBA Championships in 3 years.
Jerry West capped off a spectacular Finals series with a 42-point performance, which earned him the only Finals MVP Award, to date, given to a member of the losing team.
This program measures 8-1/2" wide by 11" tall and is in
    very good to excellent condition
, with only a mild stain and ripple at the bottom middle of the cover and a slightly bent top left corner.  The score sheets are
    scored
    for both teams.
